Backup is easy. Recovery is the point.

Every business believes it has backups until the day it needs them. GBS designs, runs and tests backup and disaster recovery so that when something goes wrong, the only question is how quickly you're back, not whether you're coming back.

Talk about your risk

The question isn't "are we backed up?"

It's "if we lost our systems this morning, what would it cost us by Friday?" Hardware fails, people delete things, ransomware happens, and buildings occasionally flood or burn. None of that is pessimism; it's the risk register every business already lives with, whether it's written down or not.

What separates a bad week from a company-ending one is recovery: how much data you can afford to lose, how long you can afford to be down, and whether anyone has actually proven the answer. Those are business decisions, not technical ones, and they're where we start.

GBS protects whatever you run and wherever you run it: servers and infrastructure in your building, systems in the cloud, and everything moving between the two.

Our strategy: from risk to recovery

The same disciplined path for every client, whether the answer turns out simple or complex.

1

Assess

Where is your business vulnerable, where could data be lost, and what would that loss actually cost?

2

Design

A backup solution shaped to your risk and budget. Sometimes simple, sometimes layered, always deliberate.

3

Automate

Backups that run themselves, with monitoring and reporting so silence never gets mistaken for success.

4

Test

We restore from your backups on purpose, before you ever need to in anger. Recovery is proven, not assumed.

5

Plan

A disaster recovery plan that stays current, so the worst day comes with instructions.

For most clients this runs as part of a GBS Essentials or Premium agreement, so backup health is watched every day, not discovered at renewal time.

Any system, any direction

Your architecture doesn't limit your protection

On-premise to cloud, cloud to cloud, cloud back to your own hardware: we design whichever combination your risk profile calls for, rather than forcing your business into one product's shape.

Servers & infrastructure

The systems in your building protected with local copies for fast recovery and encrypted off-site copies for the day the building itself is the problem.

Cloud services

The data living in your cloud platforms protected independently of those platforms, because "it's in the cloud" has never meant "it can't be lost".

Everything in between

Hybrid environments, systems mid-migration, one site or several: the strategy covers the business as it actually is, not as a diagram wishes it were.

Just looking to back up Microsoft 365?

If email, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams are what you need protected, the GBS Cyber plan is usually the smarter starting point: Microsoft 365 backup is built in, alongside the account security and monitoring that protect the same data from being lost in the first place.

Common questions

We're in the cloud. Do we still need backups?

Yes. Cloud platforms keep their services running, but protecting your data from deletion, corruption, ransomware and account compromise remains your responsibility. Cloud data needs deliberate backup just like a server in your office does.

How do we know the backups actually work?

Because they get tested. We monitor every backup job, report on it, and perform test restores so recovery is proven rather than assumed. A backup that has never been restored is a hope, not a plan.

What does data loss actually cost?

It's rarely the data alone: it's the downtime while systems are rebuilt, the staff who can't work, the jobs that can't be invoiced and the trust that has to be rebuilt. Part of our assessment is putting a realistic number on that for your business, which then shapes how much protection makes sense.

Can you recover us from ransomware?

That's one of the main scenarios we design for. Protected, separated backup copies mean an attacker who encrypts your systems can't also encrypt your recovery path, and the disaster recovery plan sets out exactly how we bring you back.

We only need Microsoft 365 backed up. Is this the right service?

If Microsoft 365 is all you need protected, the GBS Cyber plan is usually the better fit: it includes Microsoft 365 backup alongside account security and monitoring. This page is for businesses with servers, infrastructure or broader cloud services to protect.

How does this fit with our support agreement?

Backup and recovery usually runs under GBS Essentials or Premium: the monitoring, reporting and testing become part of how we already look after you, and the disaster recovery plan is reviewed as your systems change.

Find out where you're exposed

A short conversation about what you run and what an outage would cost is enough for us to tell you whether your current protection holds up, and what we'd change if it doesn't.
