The difference between Wi-Fi and a network

A modem-router from an ISP will make the internet appear, and that's about all it will do. A business network is a designed thing: Wi-Fi coverage mapped to the building rather than hoped for, switching with the capacity and power for phones and devices, a proper firewall on the front door, and a separate network for guests so visitors never share the air with your systems.

Common questions

What makes business Wi-Fi different from home Wi-Fi?

Coverage is designed rather than guessed: multiple access points placed for the building's actual layout and materials, with roaming, capacity for dozens of devices per area, guest separation and central management. One strong router in the corner cannot do that for a working site.

Do we really need a firewall?

Yes. A business firewall inspects what comes in and goes out, blocks known threats, and provides secure remote access. It's also the first technical control assessed in frameworks like SMB1001 and by cyber insurers. An ISP modem does not qualify.

Can you connect our second building or site?

Yes. Depending on distance and line of sight we use point-to-point wireless links or site-to-site VPNs over each site's internet connection, so both locations behave as one network with one set of rules.

Will the network handle phones and cameras?

That's a design input, not luck. We size switches with Power over Ethernet for handsets, cameras and access points, and separate voice and camera traffic so call quality doesn't depend on how busy the office is.

Do you monitor the network afterwards?
